You open your insights, see a post got 212 views, feel a little bad, and close the app. Sound familiar?
That's not analytics. That's checking a score. And a score on its own doesn't tell you what to do next.
Metrics vs. analytics (they're not the same thing)
Metrics are the numbers on a single post: views, likes, comments, saves, shares. They tell you what happened one time.
Analytics is what you get when you step back and look at those numbers over weeks and months. That's where patterns show up, and patterns are what make your next post better than your last one.
One post with low views doesn't mean anything. Five posts on the same topic with low views? That's information.
Not every number means the same thing
Each metric tells a different story, so stop treating them like one big "engagement" number.
Views tell you how many people saw it.
Likes tell you someone was interested for a second.
Saves tell you it was useful enough to come back to.
Shares and sends tell you your content spoke for someone else. That's the strongest signal you can get.
Profile visits, link taps, and DMs tell you it actually moved someone to do something.
A post with 40 likes and 12 sends did more for your business than a post with 400 likes and zero sends.
Ask these 3 questions every month
Pull your numbers once a month. Not daily. Daily checking is how you end up emotionally attached to one random post.
1. Did it reach people who don't follow you yet? Look at the topic or format, not just one post. If your tutorials keep reaching non-followers and your announcements don't, that's your pattern.
2. Did it make anyone do something? Profile visits, replies, link taps, shares, DMs. That's the stuff that counts toward actual clients.
3. What are you dropping, tweaking, or testing next month? If a number doesn't change what you do next, it's just a number sitting there.
The monthly 15-minute review
Open your insights and write down three things:
Your top 3 posts by sends and saves (not likes).
What those 3 posts have in common: topic, format, hook, length.
One thing you'll repeat next month and one thing you'll let go of.
That's it. Do this every month and your strategy stops being a guess.
Real talk
Feelings can mislead your strategy. You might love a post that flopped and hate one that took off. Let the patterns make the call. Follow what works, adjust what doesn't, and give it time to compound.
